iPhone Widget Not Showing? A Practical Checklist
Work out whether a widget is missing from the gallery, blank or showing old content, then follow a focused set of checks.
First identify what “not showing” means: is the app absent from the widget gallery, is an added widget blank, or is it displaying old information? Each problem has a different next step. Avoid deleting the app or resetting your phone before checking the simpler possibilities below.
The app is missing from the widget gallery
- Confirm that the app is installed and open it once. Complete any setup needed to create the content the widget should show.
- Open the Home Screen widget gallery using Apple’s Add Widget steps ↗. A Home Screen widget is not automatically available in the Lock Screen picker.
- Check the app’s current compatibility and widget support on its App Store page. Update it if an update is available; Apple explains how to update apps manually ↗.
- If it still does not appear, restart the iPhone and check again. If the issue persists, contact the app developer with your iPhone model and iOS version.
The widget is present but blank or wrong
Open the app and make sure the content exists. For Aquarium Widgets, choose or create an aquarium before adding its widget. Touch and hold the widget to look for Edit Widget if the app offers that option. If the widget shows old content, reopen the app and give it time to update; widgets do not all refresh continuously. Check the screen you are editing
The Home Screen, Lock Screen and Today View have different widget areas. A widget designed for one location may not be offered in another. Aquarium Widgets is presented as a Home Screen aquarium. Our screen comparison explains the difference.
If the widget appears but looks too small or crowded, the problem may be layout rather than installation. Try a different size from the gallery and use the size guide to choose one.
